Jubilee Year 2025 Pilgrimages - BHT0073

2025 Year of a Great Jubilee a Holy Year!
Year of Jubilee, also a Holy Year, in the Roman Catholic Church.
"In the Roman Catholic tradition, a Holy Year, or Jubilee, is a great religious event. It is a year of forgiveness of sins and also the punishment due to sin, it is a year of reconciliation between adversaries, of conversion and receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation, and consequently of solidarity, hope, justice, commitment to serve God with joy and in peace with our brothers and sisters. A Jubilee year is above all the year of Christ, who brings life and grace to humanity." (Vatican.va)
Pope Boniface VIII instituted the first Christian Jubilee Year in 1300. He declared that a Holy Year would occur every hundred years. Later, Pope Clement VI changed the frequency to every fifty years in 1343. This was later revised by Pope Paul II in 1470, establishing the Jubilee Year to be celebrated every twenty-five years.
Over time, different Popes have called for extraordinary Jubilee Years on occasions deemed spiritually significant. These extraordinary Holy Years could be declared for various reasons, such as the commemoration of important events, the anniversary of Christ's birth or resurrection, or to promote specific spiritual themes.
The Jubilee Year traditionally begins with the opening of the Holy Door at St. Peter's Basilica in Rome by the Pope. Pilgrims from around the world travel to Rome or other places of significance designated for the Jubilee to participate in special prayers, masses, and religious ceremonies.
In the Catholic Church, a Jubilee Year, also known as a Holy Year, is a special period designated by the Pope. It's a time of spiritual significance, forgiveness, pilgrimage, and grace.
